Spending & Debt

Adrian Dix is proud of the NDP’s economic record in the 1990s – a time of economic chaos when debt more than doubled and they ran eight straight deficit budgets.

  • During a time when balanced budgets were commonplace, the NDP ran eight consecutive deficits – and missed every one of their own financial projections.
  • The accumulation of deficit spending more than doubled taxpayer supported debt. Debt rose from $9.8 billion when the NDP took office to $25 billion.
  • Under the BC Liberals, British Columbia’s debt-to-GDP ratio has fallen from 22% in 2000 to 17.2% today.
  • Under Adrian Dix and the NDP, British Columbia’s credit rating was repeatedly downgraded by financial rating agencies.

Dix’s Deficit Promises

Adrian Dix did not learn from his experience in the 1990s – in just six months, Dix has made billions of dollars of spending promises without saying how he’d pay for them.

Either he doesn’t have a plan – or he’s hiding it.

His reckless plans would cost $6.8 billion dollars – including billions to terminate B.C.’s green energy projects. To offset the costs Adrian Dix has identified “just” $490 million in tax hikes.
Reckless Dix’s promises would cost every taxpayer in the province $6,811.
